Teaching your baby

These days, giving your child a good education means starting when they are a baby. Of course, this doesn’t mean you start working flash cards when they’re still in newborn clothes, but you do need to start stimulting their learning ability early on. When I first realized this, it was a bit daunting. My wife and I started looking at all the good preschools and saw that the curriculum requires little ones to learn such a great deal. In order to give our toddler a boost in his education, we decided to create a set of lessons. My wife works with him the most, mostly on things like his ABC’s and the names of animals and other things.  

We’ve always appreciated all the clothing gifts that all of his grandparents have given, but the best gifts are those that keep giving through learning. I think one of the best personalized baby gifts one can give is a teaching activity. Musical toys and simple ones like blocks with letters and numbers on them are classical and effective.

One helpful thing to incorporate into your child’s life is baby sign language. Not only does it facilitate learning, but it improves communication in general between parent and baby. This can be very helpful for a frustrated toddler trying to tell his parents something important. It can even help with toilet training since the little one will be able to tell others when he has to go potty.

Don’t stress out too much about what to teach your child or if it seems as if your baby is not making any progress. Children all progress at their own pace, and eventually, with consistent effort from the parents, any baby will learn.
