Every year, there are many children who die from heat stroke after being left in cars. It seems so incomprehensible that a loving and doting parent could possibly cause their baby’s death in this way, but it happens on average of 36 times a year. I couldn’t believe it when I read the statistics, but the fact is that many of these parents are upstanding citizens who loved their children. A doctor, minsister, concert violinist none of whom were under the influence of any drugs or alcohol. As a matter of fact, only about 7 percent of the recorded instances involved any kind of substance. One unique baby gift that you could give to a parent to prevent this trajedy is a noisy toy for their baby, or perhaps a children’s music CD, so that they are reminded there’s an infant in the back seat.
It seems that there was a big jump when the law was changed to require that infants, toddlers and children sit in the back seat as opposed to the front. Before that time, the average amount of kids that died from hyperthermia was 11 a year. What happens in most of these cases is that a very busy parent simply rushed away from the car and forgot their little one. No parent thinks that anything like this would ever happen to them, but take this as a warning to pay close attention to your baby while driving them around. Babies immature respirtory and circulation systems can’t handle heat as well as adults, so you need to monitor to make sure they don’t overheat. Premature babies especially need to have cool preemie baby clothes in the summer to prevent this.
