A recent study done by an environmental group in Oakland, CA found that paint used on baby bibs contained more that three times the federally allowed level. This comes right on the heels of a huge recall by Mattel becasue of lead paint and small magnets. The concern is that infants might ingest some cracked paint off of the bib and get lead poisoning.
The bibs are sold at Toys R Us and Babies R Us in California under the brand names of Especially for Baby and Koala Baby. A baby bib is a necessary item for any parent to feed their child, and many friends and family get cute bibs as a baby gift. They do so trusting that the product is safe, but now with all the recalled toys and other items, getting a simple baby shower gift is not so simple anymore. The smart thing is to research a company before you buy their products and find out if their inventory is made overseas. If they are, call the company and ask them point blank if tests have been done to ensure that the items are safe. Look on the internet for updated recall information from all the companies, and make sure the one you’re buying from is not one of them.
