If you think having identical twins is a big occasion, try having identical quadruplets. That’s what Karen Jepp, a Canadian mom from Calgary, Alberta did…and without any fertility drugs! Doctors say that a natural occurence of identical quadruplets is extremely rare, with only 1 in 13 million births. The last known birth was in 2006 to a mother in India. Medical literature says that there are only about 50 sets of identical quadruplets in the whole world.
The little baby girls were born two months early, after 31 weeks and three days in the womb. They’re going to need some preemie baby clothes for a while as they weigh around 2.15 to 2.6 pounds each. Doctors say that they are all in good condition and breathing without ventilators, and will be transferred to a different hospital soon if their condition permits. Their baby girl names are Autumn, Brooke, Calissa and Dahlia. They were delivered by cesarian section Sunday afternoon. Doctors said that even though the infants were born premature, as many multiple baby births are, it’s amazing how long Jepp did carry them.
